Overview
The new AVID Pulsus is the distillation
of the experience gained during the development of AVID's ultra-high performance
$6,000 Pulsare Phono Stage. Pulsus is a single-ended, dual-mono two-box preamp;
a true high-end design with outstanding performance and build quality at an
affordable price.
The AVID Pulsus offers three gain settings
(48dB/60dB/70dB) in a Moving Magnet and Moving Coil phono preamp. The outboard
power supply helps to keep the noise-floor as low as possible and distortion
across the audio spectrum is virtually immeasurable. It offers impressive
headroom, great dynamics, tremendous amounts of detail, and a rich, warm
midband that make music sound more true-to-life; all characteristics common to
AVID's entire line of award-winning products. The Pulsus mates well with any
cartridge and its sonic signature can be defined very simply: It's the natural
sound of musical instruments in their original recording space.
The Pulsus is built in the UK with high-specification
internal components and to an exceedingly high level of quality. Inputs and
outputs are both gold-plated RCAs. Gain, resistance and capacitance selections
are all easily made from the underside of the chassis, offering exceptional
flexibility and ease of use.
A passive RIAA (with Neumann HF correction) circuit using
audiophile-grade capacitors helps maintain linearity of reproduction; and its
external, regulated power supply provides refined power to causing this to have
a vanishing low noise levels. You will be shocked to hear so much more
micro-detail from all of your LPs when using the Pulsus.
Passionately manufactured within AVID's own facilities,
everything from PCB assembly, testing and quality control to the high-quality
casework, all ensure a long lasting, reliable phono stage. The Pulsus is a

THE NEW MASTERGROOVE FROM TOM EVANS
The Mastergroove phono stage is the next big leap in evolution beyond the G+SRX. The front end gain stages have 50% less noise and distortion and twice the dynamic range compared to the G+SRX, all signal path resistors are Vishay 0.1 % tol and 15ppm tempco. Each stage of gain is powered by a Lithos 7 class a local voltage regulator, both left and right channel local voltage regulators are supplied by my higher powered Lithos 6 regulators, in all 14 pcb's. We even went to the trouble of designing and winding 'in house' a new 200va low flux transformer with an electrostatic screened primary winding to dramatically reduce RF entering the power supply. Nine values per / ch of cartridge loading resistor settings are provided with dip switches on the rear panel. MM (and Decca ) versions can be built to order.

recently heard, and I believe it is superior to the Tannoy
Churchill's which cost about $5K more, ARE available in stores, but
do not have alnico magnets
